Robert Little

Rockport

Robert Glenn “Bobby” Little went to his eternal peace on October 13, 2021, at his home in Rockport. Bobby was born on June 7, 1933, and was in the third generation of his family to live in Rockport. Bobby grew up hunting and fishing. He also shrimped with his father in the bays around Rockport. Bobby played high school football and basketball, graduating from Rockport High School in 1951.

Bobby met JoAnn Koelle at Texas A&I College in Kingsville, and they were married on September 10, 1952. Bobby and JoAnn made their home in Rockport, where they raised their four boys.

In the early 1950s, Bobby joined with his father Ted R. Little and his brother James T. “Jimmy” Little in starting Ted R. Little & Sons, a marine contracting business. Beginning with one wooden shrimp boat they grew the business, engaging primarily in pipeline and oilfield work in the bays of the Coastal Bend. In 1976, Bobby and Jimmy formed State Service Co., Inc. to expand into other oil and gas industry contracting and construction opportunities. State Service Co., Inc. has served customers around the world, and continues to operate from its yard in Ingleside. Bobby retired from active participation in the business in 2006.

Bobby loved Rockport and Aransas County and kept abreast of matters of interest arising in the community. Bobby was a lifelong member and leader of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockport. After he graduated from high school, Bobby volunteered to help build the church, and later served as both a Deacon and an Elder.

With their family friends the Smiths and the Walters, Bobby and JoAnn owned the Agarita Ranch in the Hill Country near Reagan Wells for over three decades, and trips there became a family tradition. Bobby and JoAnn also travelled to most US states and to many other countries.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Ted R. and Lucille Lathrop Little; by his brother James T. “Jimmy” Little; and by his son Richard G. “Ricky” Little.

Bobby is survived by JoAnn, his beloved wife of 69 years; by his sister Mary Lou Eckerdt (Gary); by his sons Robby (Sandra), Rusty, and Reagan (Alberto); by his grandchildren Jon (Esme), Cristina (Jeremy), Tim (LeeAnn), Ted (Lauren), and Trey (Shamyra); and by his great-grandchildren Cayson, Carly, Kendrick, Karter, Addie, and Cora.
