Richard David Roden

Rockport, Texas

Richard Roden age 73 of Rockport, Texas passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Corpus Christi Medical Center. He was born September 15, 1947, in Boise, Idaho to Oran and Phyllis “Ann” Holden Roden. Upon his graduation from William S. Hart High School in Newhall, California he chose to enlist in the United States Army where he attained the rank of Platoon Sgt and was a Paratrooper for the 173rd Airborne Brigade serving three tours in Vietnam. After his discharge from the Army of 9 years, he became a National Guard Recruiter and then decided to enlist in the United States Navy where he was honorably discharged in 1974 after one year of service for the reason of physical disability. Richard was a proud US Army / Navy Veteran but was very reserved about his service. In his later years, he received a hat that represented the 173rd Airborne Brigade and wore it proudly until the day he died. He spent the majority of his time after the military working for California Institute of the Arts in Newhall, California as the Facilities Director where he retired. After retirement he moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico to be closer to his children. While in Ruidoso he met and married the love of his life and soul mate Juanita “Lorraine” Avina whom he married on January 12, 2007, and gained three more daughters. Mr. Roden had the gift to fix anything. He loved working with his hands and fixing and repairing things and doing woodworking projects. He was a man of many hats from owning several businesses including a BBQ restaurant, a construction company and even a secondhand furniture store. He accomplished a lot but his main accomplishment and what he was proudest of was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was always making his family laugh and being the life of every party. He was a man that stood for what he believed in and fought for what was right. Richard loved owning and riding motorcycles and currently owned a trike that he enjoyed riding around town and in many parades with his beautiful wife Lorraine on the back!

He is survived by his wife Juanita Lorraine Roden of 14 years of Rockport, Texas, his mother Ann of Pendleton, Oregon, his children son, David & wife Carmen Roden of Clovis, New Mexico, daughters, Donna Roden of Amarillo, Texas, Jodi & husband Kevin Duncan of Lubbock, Texas, Brandy and husband Jeff Escue of St. Albans, West Virginia, Jennison Macias of Rockport, Texas, and Michelle Leahy of Rockport, Texas.
