Rockport

Phoebe Reading Taylor, aged 74, passed away quietly at her home in Rockport, Texas, on October 28, 2021 from a chronic heart condition. She was born in Bay City, Texas, and was the beloved daughter of Harry and Maxine Reading. Phoebe was named Harriet at birth but nicknamed “Phoebe” by her grandmother, Ethyl Reading. Upon reaching her early teens, she dropped the Harriet and officially and legally became Phoebe.

Phoebe’s young years were spent achieving many honors and awards. She was on the varsity basketball team, the Student Council, Sophomore Sweetheart, cheerleader and head cheerleader for the Bay City Black Cats and ultimately voted “Miss Bay City High School” her senior year. She became a summer counselor at Camp Longhorn during her college years, and after attending SMU, she graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with her BS in History and Government. She pledged Zeta Tau Alpha at SMU and later became an outstanding member of the Junior League of Houston.

At the Junior League, Phoebe was the director of Children’s Theater which was a program to introduce underprivileged elementary children to live theater and the arts. She also worked and directed the local Community Theater productions in Houston and developed many local entertainers and actors. She was active in her children’s schools and was awarded the PTA Lifetime award.

Representing these entertainers and performers became her passion, so she founded PRT Entertainment for this purpose. She later formed Simply Entertainment which is still operating in the entertainment business, headed by her daughter Courtney Bryan.

Phoebe is preceded in death by her parents, her eldest sister, Rebecca Ann Reading, and her beloved husband, John Edward Taylor who passed away September 22, 2021. She is survived by her two children, son Blake Reading Brown and daughter, Courtney Hale Bryan (Greg), who has two children, Liam and Quinn Bryan, her two step sons James & Giles Taylor, her sister, Patricia Reading Blandford and her two children, Barrett Ward and Carlie Bailey, and finally her precious dog Mazie Maxine.

A private service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockport, Texas, on December 11th at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Heart Association or your favorite charity.

Phoebe lived her life with optimism, grace, and an indomitable spirit and was loved by all those who met and worked with her. We wish her the very best in her new adventure and miss her more than anyone could ever imagine.
