Patrick Daly

October 20, 1928 — October 6, 2019

Rockport

The Honorable Judge Patrick Joseph Daly, 90, passed peacefully from this life on October 6, 2019. He was born on October 20,1928 to John and Margaret Daly in Houston, Texas.

Pat grew up in Houston as the son of a first generation Irish immigrant. He joined the Merchant Marine at age 15 during WWII, served in the Navy as a submarine sailor, and later served as a medic in the Army during the Korean War. After his military service, Pat attended the University of Houston and later joined the Houston Fire Department in 1954 where he remained until medical retirement. He loved being a firefighter and even had a segment on a children’s television show in the early 1960’s called Fireman Pat.

Pat was on vacation at a dude ranch in Bandera with his daughter and son when he met the love of his life, Linda in 1965 and married her three months later. Pat and Linda moved to Rockport in 1971 where he worked in the insurance industry. In 1984, he was appointed Aransas County Justice of the Peace and was reelected multiple times until retiring after 27 years of service. He deeply valued serving the public in this role.

Pat and Linda enjoyed a rich life in Rockport, becoming deeply embedded in the community, raising a busy houseful of girls, and developing lifelong friends. Pat will always be remembered for his outgoing personality, eternal optimism, endless supply of laughs, and his deep love of people. Because of his presence, there was never a dull moment in the Daly House, self-titled “The 230 Club.” Many of his children’s friends thought of him as a second dad because he made all feel so welcome and loved.

Pat’s greatest legacy will be his love for his family. He had no greater joy than to have the entire extended Daly clan together, especially when this happened in Rockport! He loved to travel and take family vacations. He valued building memories with his family by taking his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren back to a dude ranch in recent years.

His family admired these things most: his love for adventure, passion for family and friends, a commitment to excellence on the bench for Aransas County, a contagious laugh, the ability to always make a friend, and the way he brightened every room.

Pat is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 47 years Linda, daughter Kelly, brother John Daly and brother-in-law Stanley Voelkel.

He is survived by his children Sharon (Tony) Scanlin, Tim (Mary) Daly, Jennie (John) Loftis, Julie (Daron) Adkison, Joey (Jeremy) Hansen, stepdaughter Renee (Jeff) Peel, grandchildren Nikki (Jason) Templeton, Kyle (Sarah) Daly, Shane Daly, Cody Scanlin, Cade Adkison, Reid Adkison, Cooper Adkison, Landry Loftis, Luke Loftis, Lana Kay Loftis, Westin Hansen, Camden Hansen and great grandchildren, Addison, Colton and Connor. Pat is also survived by sisters Margaret Voelkel and Abbie Daly.

A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday evening from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Rockport. Burial will follow at Rockport Cemetery.
