Novelete Jean Millett Yoakum was born January 22,1928 in Seguin, Texas to Gunzlo Millett, Sr. and Irma Jefferson Millett. She dedicated her life and was baptized at Capote Baptist Church in Seguin, Texas. She was one of four children. Mary Ella Millett, Veyrle Grace Charles, Gunzlo Millett, Jr. preceded her in death. She attended New Hope Baptist Church in Seguin, Texas. Novelete relocated to Sinton, Texas. She was a member of the Rising Star Baptist Church where she served as an usher, and later the First Baptist Church of Sinton, Texas. She was also a member of the local Women's VFW Auxiliary in Sinton
Novelete received her formal education in the Seguin Public School District, graduating from Ball High School, class of 1946. She attended Huston Tillotson University in Austin, Texas where she received a bachelor's degree in Education. She became a Special Education teacher in Sinton, Texas. She met and married Houston Yoakum July 29,1977 until his death March 31, 2001.
She is survived by nieces Jocelyn Etti, Diane Charles, Linda Nichols, Beverly Catlin, nephews Joel Gage, Christopher Millett. Great-nieces Michelle (Kenneth) Haynes, Nicole (Kelechukwu) Anyanwu, Cassie Gage, Doris Michelle Smith, Yolandra (Edward) Beck, Marrissa Catlin, Sierra Catlin, Skylere Catlin. Great nephews Anthony Smith, Matthew Millett, Nicholas Millett, Joseph Catlin, Christopher Millett Jr and Great great nieces Jacqueline Posley-Smith, Addison Haynes, Great great-nephews Kenneth Haynes, Phillip Haynes, Ethan Anyanwu, Benjamin Anyanwu. And a host of cousins.
Novelete was a woman of grace and class, with a beautiful spirit who is now with the Lord.
