Lucella "Elaine" Cooper

February 8, 1946 — August 3, 2022

Portland, Texas

Lucella "Elaine" (née Atticot) Cooper, 76, of Portland, TX, passed away peacefully at home on August 3, 2022. Elaine, as she was known to family and friends, is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 51 years, Kenrick, daughters - Karen Cox and her husband Bobby of Austin, and Marsha Cooper of Houston, granddaughter - Adriana Ramos, and grandson - Isaiah Cooper; other family members include a host of brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Elaine was born February 8, 1946, in Castries, on the Caribbean Island Nation of St. Lucia the daughter of Freddie and Elvira (née Thomas) Atticot. In 1969, she moved to St. Croix, USVI where she met her future husband Kenrick (Ken) Fitzherbert Cooper who fondly reminisces that "I had never met a more beautiful lady". They married on June 2, 1971, and began their family, as well as their love of adventure, travel and faith. The family relocated to Texas in 1978. It was in Texas that Elaine soon dedicated her life to serving the Lord. Elaine was a devoted wife and mother, often seen shuttling her girls to school, softball games and piano lessons. She was an early riser that loved a fresh cup of coffee in the morning, singing, shopping and international travel. She drew joy from spending time in her garden and was a passionate gardener with "green hands" known to grow beautiful dessert roses and plumerias. Elaine never met a stranger; people were drawn to the little woman with the colorful accent and powerful personality. She is loved and dearly missed by family and friends.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings and infant son.

Thank you to the kind neighbors, friends, family and amazing hospice care team for the outpouring of love in its many forms of support (meals, groceries, lawn care, hugs, laughter, text messages, phone calls, in-person visits).

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 12:00pm until service time of 2:00pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes in Aransas Pass, Texas. Burial will follow at the Gregory Cemetery.
