John "Stoney" Mcgerald

September 2, 1942 — December 28, 2020

Aransas Pass

John "Stoney" McGerald passed away on December 28, 2020 in Corpus Christ, TX.  Born on September 2, 1942 in Manhattan, NY to John Anthony McGerald and Rita McVey McGerald.  He was raised in Mount Pleasant, TX.   He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Hanna Brodie.  He was self employed as a commercial diver at HBSM Enterprises Dive Services.  He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Master Captain with the U.S. Coast Guard.  He studied Bovine Embryo Transfer at  Rio Vista International   He was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders and was one of the most "colorful" members. It didn't matter whether you agreed with him or not, you always knew that Stoney was there.  Standing in his leathers, as tall as he could stand, his presence was always felt and appreciated.  There was never a question that he loved his wife, his Navy, his Country and our Nation's veterans and he loved the Patriot Guard Riders. He was not in the best health but he would show at every mission he could.  He belonged to the Combat Veterans Riders and the Ingleside VFW where he was a lifetime member. He was also a member of the Parrot Heads of Port Aransas.  He gave of himself every way he could.  In moments like these we are reminded of John Dunne's poem, "No man is an Island'' . The short version goes like this. If a clod is washed away by the sea, the island (think of England), is the less.  So never ask for whom the bell tolls, for it tolls for thee.  In his passing, we are the less.  Let our prayers and love go out to Hanna and may we respect and honor him for the man that he was.

Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 1pm. There will be a fellowship of brothers and sisters at the VFW, Ingleside Post 6386, 1452 State Highway 361, Ingleside, Texas following the chapel service.
