Jean Shipman

Jean Marie (Roberts) Shipman, a beloved Mom, Granma, Mimi, Aunt and friend, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 27, 2019, at the age of 91, at Gulf Pointe Plaza. Jean was born on August 19, 1928.

Jean lived in Rockport, Texas most of her life. She was an avid cat lover who found peace and comfort in the company of her furry friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Edith Ewing (Culley) Roberts, her beloved son, Dana Wagner, her brothers Arthur Lee Roberts and his wife Margaret Roberts, Raymond Culley Roberts and his wife Sally Macintosh Roberts, Culley and Sally’s daughter, Dorothy Jean Roberts, and husbands Junior Herman Wagner and M. L. Shipman.

Jean is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Mark Swartz and her daughter-in-law Vicki Wagner. She was also a loving grandmother to her grandchildren James and Michelle Shipman, Madalynn and Toby Loveless, Tiffany and Zac Hill, Wesley and Amanda Swartz, Joseph and Marina Bailey, and Jennifer and Daniel Pierce. Additionally, Jean was lovingly called Mimiby her great grandchildren Torrance, Camryn, Addyson, Jackson, Anthony, Olivia Jean (her name sake), Brileigh, Raelynn, Helaina, Paxton, Aidyn, Ethaniel and Austen. Jean was an adoring aunt to Fran, Dawn, David, Jimmy, and Becky. She has also survived by many other relatives and dear friends.

In her younger years, Jean enjoyed working at Johnson’s Drugstore and First National Bank of Rockport where she was well known and admired. After retiring from First National Bank, Jean began to volunteer at Gospel Lighthouse Church/New Life Worship Center and Christian School.

Jean was a very strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She was the cornerstone of our family and will be missed all the days of our lives.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Stan Haun, her doctor for more than 30 years.As for the entire staff at Gulf Pointe Plaza, your loving kindness and wisdom significantly impacted mine and my mother’s lives.

In Jean’s honor, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made online to the Humane Society and Adoption Center of Rockport/Fulton, to celebrate her love for cats.

Celebrating the life of Jean Shipman. Though we grieve our loss, there is also much joy in having known and loved such a special person. Join us for lunch as we partake in Jean‘s favorite seafood, share stories and celebrate a beautifully lived life. Please understand that each guest will pay for a meal and beverage of their choice.
