Janet Haseman Taylor passed away on Tuesday, February 23, at her home in Rockport. She had fought a courageous battle with cancer for the last six months. Janet was born on October 12, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas to John Diederich Haseman III and Verna Brundrett Haseman. Janet was a teacher for 34 years, 30 of which were in Rockport. She was well liked and respected by her students and peers. Upon her retirement, Janet joined the Aransas County Historical Society, the County Historical Commission, and she was a founding member of the Friends of the History Center. In addition, Janet was a proud member of the Stenson-Simpson chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and also of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Janet’s Rockport roots were deep. She was a fifth generation Brundrett. Janet loved to research Aransas County history, and she had a treasure trove of photographs, letters, and newspaper clippings relating to its past. Janet donated many of her family memorabilia to the historic organizations.

Survivors include her beloved daughter Sarilyn (Jay) Dietrich, her sisters Verna Anne Crowell, Sally (Robert) Dennis and Betty David) Paine, and many nieces and nephews. Janet leaves behind many friends to cherish her memory and friendship.

A service will be held for Janet on Friday, February 26 at 2 p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport. Burial will follow the service at Rockport cemetery.
