Hidden beneath an abundance of personal strength, confidence, and perseverance was the pure and precious heart that Jane Rita Glanzer carried all her life. It was a heart that loved fiercely, for it was fiercely tried and tested through the years. Genuine, compassionate, and indestructible like the most valuable of all precious metals on earth, it can be said with certainty that since her birth on April 23, 1951, and upon her passing on December 27, 2021, she had a heart of pure gold.

When from an early age she realized it could be broken, she began to protect it and guard it. Her quick wit, brilliance, and intuition carried her through many troubled times and painful moments. Always honest to herself and others, Jane stood her ground when it mattered most. She was increasingly careful to give her heart away as she gained wisdom and aged gracefully, only having fully handed it over to her beloved husband of 31 years, James Glanzer. The foundation of their relationship was truth and understanding; a love to rival all other loves, and the paramount gift in each of their lives. From the moment they were united in marriage on January 1, 1991, Jane found her true home with James and also a home for her only son, Mason Matern, who benefited greatly from the love of both parents. Together, they raised Mason to become the man he is today; husband to Crystal, and father to James and Jane’s six beautiful grandchildren: Grace Michelle, Jackson Ryan, Sarah Elizabeth, Rebekah Celeste, Maggie Anne, and Abigail Faith Matern.

Jane’s heart also led her to many passions, including most predominantly her deep love of music and talents as a musician with decades of experience. After graduating from Mary Carroll High School in 1969, Jane’s golden voice earned a vocal scholarship to attend the University of Texas. She moved from Corpus Christi to Austin, and played bass guitar with a rock band called Deep South through her college years. Together, the group performed across Texas at hundreds of venues for many years. Those experiences and her many talents were passed on to her son, and now her grandchildren. Enjoying her son’s music was one of the greatest joys in her life.

In music, her husband, and her son, Jane found her place to belong in the world. Now with her passing, she has found her place to belong with her Savior, Jesus. No doubt her golden heart, her golden voice, her music and the brilliance of her beautiful soul is a delight to the One Who has loved her beyond measure through her life well tried, well lived, and well given for the sake of those she loved.

Jane is preceded in death by her father, James Locklar, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the U.S. Army during the Korean War when she was less than a year old. She is survived by those family members previously mentioned, and also her mother Barbra (Ernest) Howe, brother Danny (Patti) Howe, sister Edith (Bill) Antonetz, nieces Laura, Rebecca, and Meghan, and nephew Matthew. Jane was also involved in the lives of several young men who were close friends like brothers to her son, and like sons to her, through the Boys Scouts of America and the musicians who discovered a love of music as fellow musicians with her son.

Visitation will be held at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Texas, on Friday, December 31, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., with a Celebration of Life service at 10 a.m. at the same location. Following the service, friends and family in attendance will be invited to join the family at the home of Mason Matern. The family is extremely grateful for all of the prayers, acts of kindness, and generosity extended since August of 2021 when Jane experienced a series of complications that required an extensive hospital stay. They are especially thankful for the medical teams who cared for her, most specifically Dr.

Victor Trevino at Spohn Shoreline, and the team at Post Acute Medical Specialty (PAMS) including Dr. Enrique Ramos; Tracy Rivero, RN; and all others who provided phenomenal services.

While the passing of such a beloved wife, mother, and Mimi is incredibly difficult, we find great joy in knowing she is now being cared for by God. In His Great Love, He makes all things new … and we trust in His infinite goodness and grace as we thank Him for making her new again in Heaven. Amen.
