Francis (Frank) Spencer Simpson

August 24, 1952 ~ December 31, 2021 (age 69)

Frank Simpson passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Friday, December 31, 2021 in Rockport, where he called home for the last 40+ years, after a five-year bout with cancer.

Frank was born in Vancouver, Canada on August 24, 1952. He became a naturalized US citizen on November 30, 1962.

Frank traveled around the world with his family on a boat his dad built called The Venture from 1967-1972, then he joined the Army as an infantryman. Upon leaving the Army he joined the Merchant Marine and began work as an Ordinary Seaman. He worked his way up to Unlimited Able Bodied Seaman during his career in the Merchant Marine. It was during this time that Frank became a Firefighter with the US Forest Service in Southern California, after which he went to work for ExxonMobile, from which he retired.

Frank was proudest of three things: the 1st was being an infantryman in the US Army, serving with the 9th Infantry Division in Fort Lewis Washington where he completed a jungle training course in Panama.

The 2nd was being an Able Bodied Seaman where he earned a Coast Guard Medal for bravery and leadership in extinguishing fires that engulfed a damaged & abandoned oil tanker in the Gulf of Mexico.

The 3rd thing that Frank was extremely proud of was his son Sgt Jonathan James Simpson, USMC, his only child, who preceded him in death at the age of 25 when he was killed in action as a Reconnaissance Marine in Iraq on October 14, 2006. Jonathan’s Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a V for Valor is on display at the American Legion post in Rockport, where Frank was an early member.

Frank is survived by his parents Frank & Nora, siblings Jim, Kathleen and Richard, and former wife Johanne.

Frank will be interred at the Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi located at 9974 I-37, Corpus Christi, TX 78410 on Wednesday February 16, 2022 at 2pm.
