Diane Lynn Straub

(October 4, 1946 – April 16, 2022)

Diane Lynn Straub, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother  went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 16, 2022. She was the daughter of Robert and Lucille Sandifer, born on October 4,1946 in Houston, Texas. At the young age of seven, she asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior and walked down the aisle to make a profession of faith at Memorial Baptist Church in Houston. She attended Spring Branch High School, married her high school sweetheart Gary Sporn, and had three beautiful daughters. Their early years were spent in Houston and soon thereafter, they made their way to Austin where they raised the girls and were faithful members of Hyde Park Baptist Church.

Diane always created a home with love, beauty and order.  Being a wife, mother and homemaker was her passion. Family trips to the Frio River were always a favorite and Diane loved going to the beach and taking cruises with her family members.

Diane’s creative and artistic talent led her to start a women’s clothing business originally called “Just Plain Cute”.  Because of her good fashion sense and creativity, her business grew over the next ten years as she continued to design and sell her clothing in stores and at various Market Days throughout Texas. During this time, Diane also used her talent of design and decor to remodel and sell multiple homes throughout Austin and Rockport.

On July 4, 2002 Diane married Stephen Straub and a few years later they made their home in Rockport, Texas where Diane quickly began a successful Real Estate career where she earned multiple sales awards. She also took excellent care of her mother, Lucille Dougherty for three years while Lucy lived in Rockport. Diane enjoyed watching the beautiful ocean sunsets from her porch, eating fresh seafood, and loved visits from all of her children and grandchildren.  Diane will most be remembered for her selfless giving, her open door hospitality, her “fun” contagious personality, and her genuine love for her family. Diane had a servant’s heart where she loved people well by always being a doer.

The family is extremely grateful for the kind and devoted care Diane received at Houston Methodist Hospital for the past eight months. While we will greatly miss Diane, we are comforted in knowing that she is at home in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.

She was loved by everyone who knew her and cherished by her family.  Diane is survived by her husband, Stephen Straub of Rockport, TX, her mother, Lucille Dougherty of Hattiesburg, MS, her daughter, Tammy Johnson and husband Dwight Johnson of Dallas, TX, daughter Tracy Nagel and husband Robert Nagel of Austin, TX and daughter Lindsay Donaldson and husband Charley Donaldson of Austin, TX. Stepchildren Andy Straub and wife Shelly of Houston, TX, Tara Kuntschik of Huntsville, TX and John Elder of Houston, TX. She was “Grandmother” and “Dina Momma” to grandchildren Matthew Johnson and wife Kelly, Megan Johnson and husband Cameron, Madeline Wood and husband Connor, Meredith Nagel, Molly Johnson, Jackson Nagel, Mackenzie Johnson, Mallory Nagel, Ellie Donaldson, Cooper Donaldson and Kate Donaldson. Step grandchildren Garrett Rickman, Emma Straub, Lilly Straub and Wesley Straub, and great grandchildren Hadley Johnson, Finn Johnson, Clara Johnson, Vera Johnson, Jack Johnson, Hank Johnson, Annie Wood, and Charlotte Johnson.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Rockport, Texas at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Houston Methodist Hospital and Houston Hospice.
