Barbara Charlene Rogers Crawford Poteet, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Charlene was born on October 8, 1930 in Lipan, Texas to Henry Jack and Lena Mae Rogers. Charlene is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and 3 sisters as well as both her loving husbands Wesley Crawford and Sam Poteet. She is survived by her adoring family, son Charles W. Crawford Sr., grandson Charles W. Crawford Jr. and wife Shelly, granddaughter Barbara Maye Barr and husband Veril, four great-grandchildren Collin, Jamie, Emma, and Ellie as well as other relatives and many friends.

Charlene was raised on a large farm; she enjoyed riding horses and was a great basketball player in high school. She grew tired of the farm life and moved to the city in 1948. She met her first love Wesley Crawford, whom she married at age 20. In December of 1950 she became a mother of her one and only Charles Wesley Crawford Sr. Charlene, husband and son traveled to South America where they lived for several years. They moved back to the states and resided in Bedford, Texas as well as Dallas, Texas in which time she worked for SRO in Arlington as an account executive. In 1976 Charlene laid her husband to rest.

In 1978 Charlene met Sam Poteet. They were married March 21st, 1980 and spent the next 29 years together. In 1979 the couple moved to the Port Aransas area. This continued Charlene’s success as a business manager, accountant, executive and business owner. Condominium Consulting and Management Services was established in 1984 by Charlene. In 1997 Charlene, Sam and their business partners built the Alister Square Inn and in 2000 built Alister Inn South. After her successful battle with breast cancer and continued battle with Lupus, Charlene retired from day-to-day business involvement in 2002, however her dedication to the business, community and family never stopped.

Throughout all of Charlene’s success she always cherished her family most. Her son Charles was her pride and joy. She loved running the company with him at her side. She embraced becoming a grandmother to Charles (Chuck) Crawford Jr. and Barbara (Barbie) Barr and was very proud of their achievements and was ecstatic when they joined her at CCMS. She welcomed Veril and Shelly into the family with open arms and leapt for joy when great-grandkids Collin, Jamie, Emma and Ellie were born.

Charlene enjoyed playing games like backgammon and Yahtzee with her grandkids, and deep-sea fishing. Charlene also loved traveling, whether it was trips to Europe, Cabo San Lucas, Miami Boat shows, playing in the Caribbeans, or just gambling with Sam at Coushatta. Upon retirement Charlene acquired her four-legged fur baby “Susie” who became her best partner in crime.

Charlene will always be remembered as a very strong, independent, hardworking and very successful business woman who loved her family with every fiber of her being.
