He was born February 10, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Mildred and William Norman Spears Jr. of Aransas Pass. He was educated in Aransas Pass, a record – holding athlete for the longest punt return and inducted in the Aransas Pass Hall of Fame and attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. After graduation, Norman married his high school sweetheart, Janice Lynn Durbin and they had a blessed marriage of 56 years. They made their home in Rockport, Texas where Norman began a lifelong career of 37 years in the field of education as a teacher-coach, Assistant High School Principal, Elementary Principal, Human Resources Director, and Superintendent. He served on numerous community and church boards. Norman, “Sunshine”, as he was affectionately known to family and friends enjoyed sports, deer, dove and quail hunting and fishing, and listening to county western music, especially when it was sung by Justin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
