William Norman Spears, III, age 79, of Rockport, Texas passed away peacefully in his home on February 6, 2022. He was born February 10, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Mildred and William Norman Spears Jr. of Aransas Pass. He was educated in Aransas Pass, a record – holding athlete for the longest punt return and inducted in the Aransas Pass Hall of Fame and attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. After graduation, Norman married his high school sweetheart, Janice Lynn Durbin and they had a blessed marriage of 56 years. They made their home in Rockport, Texas where Norman began a lifelong career of 37 years in the field of education as a teacher-coach, Assistant High School Principal, Elementary Principal, Human Resources Director, and Superintendent. He served on numerous community and church boards. Norman, “Sunshine”, as he was affectionately known to family and friends enjoyed sports, deer, dove and quail hunting and fishing, and listening to county western music, especially when it was sung by Justin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Janice Lynn (Durbin), three sons – William Norman Spears IV (Christina), Samuel Lowell Spears (Alissa), and Justin Waylon Spears (Candy Jo); Grandchildren, Emily Ann Spears, Abigail Christine Spears and Samuel Lochlan Spears. Additionally, two brothers, Winfred Spears (Linda) and Walter Spears (Lisa). He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and a large host of family, friends and many generations of colleagues and students.
The service today is conducted to the Glory of God and in honor of the life of Norman Spears. On behalf of his family and friends who love him, we communicate to all worshipers that we are not here to mourn his death… but to celebrate his eternal life. Praise be to God.
Visitation will be held from 9:00a.m. until funeral service begins at 2:00p.m. conducted by Pastor Mark Miller on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Aransas Pass. Interment will follow at Aransas Memorial Park, Rockport.
