Vivian Kay Cone

January 15, 1942 — August 29, 2025

Rockport

It is with a sad and lonely heart that I write this obituary about my dear sweet wife and best friend of 63 years, Vivan Kay Hunt Cone. “Kay” went to be with Jesus on August 29, 2025, at the age of 83. She was born on January 15, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Henry Leroy Hunt and Willie Lou Pruitt Hunt. She was raised in Aransas Pass, Texas where she graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1960.

Kay gave me the honor of giving me her hand in marriage on July 14, 1962. We met in Aransas Pass, and it was love at first sight. Our marriage of 63 years was God’s dearest blessing. Kay was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother and a loving and caring friend. She was a godly role model to our daughters, always following Jesus herself and teaching her daughters to do the same. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rockport, Texas and was an active member of the church choir. She enjoyed being a Rockport Chamber of Commerce greeter, going to Bible studies, playing Bunco with her friends, and spending time with her family. Kay loved people and was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. She never met a stranger.

Kay is survived by her husband, Terrell C. Cone, Jr.; daughters, Teresa Cone Joiner (husband Ron) and Shelley Cone Wagner (husband Dallas); grandchildren Tara Wagner Troxel (husband Sean and great granddaughter Adelaide), Luke Wagner (wife Lauren and great granddaughter Lennon Kay), Caleb Wagner, Joshua Wagner, Jaden Joiner Thompson (husband Tyler and great grandson Kai and great granddaughter Paisley ), and Isaac Joiner (wife Maddie). She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Carolyn Joan Lancaster and her husband Terrance Lee Lancaster.

My daughters and grandchildren treasure a book Kay wrote to her grandchildren in 2011 which reflects Kay’s character. She told her grandchildren that her most satisfying accomplishments in life were her fifty-year marriage, raising two daughters who love the Lord and chose Christian husbands and watching her grandchildren know the Lord, too. She wanted her grandchildren to remember her as a kind and loving “Maw Maw” who always prayed for them. She advised them when faced with difficult times to always lean on the Lord through prayer and that He would see them through the “hard knocks” in life. In marriage, she advised them to choose a Christian who was “equally yoked,” to have patience and understanding, and to be willing to compromise and overlook faults. Her book was truly a work of a grandmother's love and devotion to her grandchildren.

Kay’s greatest purpose and desire in her life was to follow Jesus as she fulfilled her calling to be a wife and mother. She is in her LORD’s presence right now as He gently says from

Matthew 25:21, “Well done, my good and faithful servant!” I thank God for my dear sweet Kay, and I look forward to joining her in eternity.
