Rockport

It is with heavy hearts yet joyous memories that we announce the passing of our beloved Violet Shirey, who departed this world on March 11, 2026, at the age of 102. Born on May 12, 1923, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Violet led a vibrant and extraordinary life that took her through many cherished places, including Missouri, Winnsboro, Austin, Halvkins, and Beeville, before settling in beautiful Rockport, Texas. Violet's life journey included many adventures and remarkable achievements. She married W. Wayne Shirey in 1944, a partnership that flourished until 1985, and later found companionship with John K. Wycuff from 1994 to 1996. A proud graduate of East Texas State University, where she attended in 1955, Violet was not only known for her love of learning but also for her passions—square dancing, stained glass artistry, and her dedication to volunteering at places like Castaways and the Good Samaritans. A retired professor, Violet's teaching career was marked by numerous accolades, reflecting her commitment to education and her students. Her spirit of adventure was boundless; on her 89th birthday, she cherished a train journey across Canada, and a year later, she celebrated her 90th in the vibrant landscapes of China.

Violet was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and siblings. She leaves behind her adoring daughter, Linda Shirey, along with beloved nieces and nephews, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. A memorial service will be held to honor Violet's remarkable life on March 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather as we celebrate Violet’s incredible legacy, sharing stories, laughter, and love in her honor. In the spirit of Violet’s zest for life, let us remember her with smiles, joy, and gratitude for the time we had with her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
