Tina Marie Ruizsoriano (nee Escamia),48, of Mission TX, passed away on 25 May 2025 in San Antonio after a brief but fierce battle with breast cancer.

Tina was born in Port Lavaca, TX, in 1977, to parents Velma Jean Pina and James Escamia. At age 3, Tina showed remarkable athletic abilities when her parents enrolled her in Baton Twirling classes, a sport that would see her rise to a champion. Her many accolades as a twirler include 13 National Championships in her age group, 3 Grand National Championship Diamond Cups, and multiple other State and National awards. At age 8, she became the youngest American to represent our country in the twirling equivalent of the Olympic Games: The World Technical Baton Twirling Championship, and over the years she would earn the United States 3 Silver Medals and numerous other awards. She travelled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and America representing our country and her sport, with highlights including twirling for the Olympic Committee, twirling in a parade honoring the Emperor of Japan, and obtaining a sponsorship from the StarLine Baton Company. She attended the University of Oklahoma, where she was the featured twirler, performing at half-time in every Sooners game.

In 1998, Tina married her husband Emilio Ruizsoriano, a military officer, to whom she gave 27 wonderful years of marriage. She was a military wife for 21 years and spent time stationed with her husband in Japan, Rhode Island, Louisiana, Georgia, Arizona, New Mexico, Illinois and Alabama. She gave birth to Emily Ruizsoriano in 2001 and Sebastian Ruizsoriano in 2005, to whom she was a great mother and role model. Tina lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: she was a certified nurse’s assistant, a connoisseur of good food, a volunteer with multiple Military Spouses associations and clubs, and by simply being the most giving and charitable person anyone knew. A rabid Disney fan, she was a member of the Disney Vacation Club and visited the theme parks yearly for most of her adult life, sharing her love of all things Disney with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Emilio; a daughter, Emily; a son, Sebastian; her mother, Jeanie; her father, James; her brother, James; her grandmother, Ernestina; and many cousins, uncles and aunts. Her love, her smile and her laughter will be missed by everyone who knew her.
