On Saturday, July 20, 2019, Thomas Douglas French, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 99. “Tom” was born on August 23, 1919 in Brownfield, Texas to Samuel Burton and Mary Rebecca French. Tom attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas and the University of Texas Austin.
Tom was employed at Continental Carbon Company in Sunray, Texas where his employment was interrupted by two tours of duty in the South Pacific during World War II, where he proudly served in the US Navy as a Master Chief Pharmacist Mate, E-9, served at Guadalcanal, Okinawa, and Roi-Namur Islands. Tom returned to Continental Carbon Company where he retired in Rockport, Texas.
Tom enjoyed golfing and fishing in his spare time. In December 1949, Tom married Pearl LaVerne Dodson, together they raised one daughter, Karen.
He is preceded in death by daughter, LaDee French; his parents; his brother, William John; sister, Adelia “Dee” Rice and his wife, LaVerne French.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his daughter, Karen and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering/lunch will begin at 12:30p.m. until service time at 2:00p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 officiated by Rev. Jim Friedel at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, 814 E. Main Rockport Texas. Graveside service with Military Honors will follow at Rockport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by a card, donation to The Humane Society or the Wounded Warrior Project. Condolences may be left at www.charliemarshallfuneralhomes.com
