Thomas Nixon

September 3, 1946 — March 31, 2024

Thomas Cantay “TC” Nixon passed away peacefully at the age of 77, surrounded by his family, on the evening of March 31st 2024. There could not have been a more fitting day to pass for such a God fearing Christian man than Easter Sunday.

TC was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years Shirley Nixon, his parents John D. (Doss) Nixon and Nettie L. Nixon, infant daughter Tara Nixon, brother John D. Nixon Jr. and sister-in-law Molly Nixon.

TC was born on September 3, 1946 in Aransas Pass, Tx. He spent his youth growing up as a typical island boy in Port Aransas, spending his days fishing and taking care of his numerous pets. As soon as he could go to work with his dad, whom operated the Port Aransas ferry system, he did. He worked along side of his father until the time came for TC to take the reigns and step into the Marine Superintendent role himself, a career that he held in the most high regard until his retirement in 1997.

In 1965, he met the love of his life, Shirley. TC and Shirley only dated for XX short months before TC knew she was the one for him and asked her to marry, which they did in 1966. They welcomed 3 girls; Lori Dawn, Robin and Heather. Together TC & Shirley raised their girls at the home they built together on 11th Street; watching their birds, working in the yard and tending to their garden. TC was an avid birder, and was known all around the Coastal Bend for the pheasants, peacocks, chickens & parrots that he raised on his property.

Although TC loved his children dearly, the greatest love in his life were his grandchildren. From the day each one was born he loved them with his whole heart and they were his greatest joy. There were daily trips to the bird pens and around the property to explore, play in the yard and swing on the beloved porch swing. When five o’clock came around (except on Saturday’s for Mass) they all knew it was time to load up and go floundering. His love of fishing was passed down to all of his grandchildren, both boys and girls, and is a tradition they still carry on to this day. TC & his brother John were inducted into the Port Aransas Boatmen Hall of Fame in 2022.

TC is survived in life by his sister, Nettie Wood (Danny), brother Raymond Nixon, daughters Tammy, Lori, Robin and Heather Nixon, and his grandchildren Kevin Thomas “KT” Scott (Shenna), Alana Nixon, Emily Bass (Corbin), Ben Scott, Thomas Nixon (Judy), Oscar Walsh and Ariel and Thomas Winton along with eight great grandchildren. He will be cherished forever by all who knew him.
