Shirley Ann Messmer James, 86, of Aransas Pass, Texas passed away Peacefully with her loved ones beside her on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. She was born on September 27, 1938, in Harlingen, Texas to Alvin Charles Messmer and Gertrude Wentz Messmer. She was employed by S&Q Clothiers Downtown and Parkdale Plaza for 14 years.
Shirley was a devoted housewife and mother who took care of her husband and children, taking the children to Little League and other sports and school activities, her grandchildren, and kept their home welcoming and inviting. She also helped take care of Bily's parents until their deaths, and her mother until her death. Shirley was a wonderful cook and baker. She cooked Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for many years. She was famous for her walnut pie and made Kathryn's wedding cake. She loved to read, especially, Danielle Steel books and word search puzzles. Shirley was very loving and caring, being a second mother to several friends who had lost their own parents. She loved animals and was dog breeder for many years, raising dogs from Teacup Toy Poodles to Great Danes, Irish Setters, Boxers and Dobermans.
She is survived by her son Dean Alan James of Aransas Pass, daughters Kathleen Rose Pickett (Clark) of Kansas City, Missouri, Linda Lanell Cervantes (Robert) of Houston, brother Alvin Charles Messmer, Jr of Aransas Pass, sister Kathryn Elizabeth DeMeulle of Aransas Pass, granddaughters Allison Marie Proffitt (Matthew) of San Antonio, Alicia Michelle Eichmann (Charles) of Virginia Beach, Amy Janíne Self (Robert) of Aubrey, Texas, grandsons David Alan James (Ginger) of Athens, Michael Lee Davis (Stacy) of Aransas Pass, Ryan Austin James of Aransas Pass, Brian Keith James of Houston, Paul Wayne Pickett (Amy) of New York and a family friend Travis McElroy (Zaira) of Aransas Pass and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Billy Johnny James married August 15, 1961, sons Richard Neal James and Daryl Curtis James, parents Alvin Charles Messmer and Gertrude Wentz Messmer.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Aransas Pass with Robert Cervantes officiating.
