IN HONOR OF SHARON JO MOORE:
A Celebration of Life
Sharon Jo Moore passed away at the age of 79 at the Corpus Christi Medical Center on the morning of February 20th, 2026. Sharon was born in Dallas, Texas, on January 25th, 1947, to Florence Lou and Harris Milby Dick. She is survived by her husband Jim (77), son James (52), and son Walter (47). Sharon was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, teacher, counselor, community volunteer, and friend.
As a young girl Sharon excelled as an award-winning baton twirler and as a percussionist on the drum line for her high school marching band. She graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, Texas, in 1965, and from Texas A&I University (now the Texas A&M University—Kingsville) in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education: History and Speech, and as a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She married James “Jim” Moore on February 1st, 1969, in Corpus Christi during her senior year in college, and they remained married for over 57 years.
For over 25 years, Sharon was a public and private school teacher (she taught all but two grades at the K-12 level) of History, Government, Speech, Social Studies, and ESL in locations as varied as Houston, Texas; Jakarta, Indonesia; Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Anchorage, Alaska. She also started her own real estate company (Sharon Moore & Associates) and worked as a real estate agent for over a decade in Texas, Colorado, and Oklahoma. In the late 1990s, Sharon went back to school, earning a Master of Arts in Counseling degree from Prairie View A&M University in 2001, and then she subsequently worked as a middle school counselor in Dickinson, Texas.
To say that Sharon was a loving person would be an understatement. Everyone who encountered her was immediately struck by her warm compassion and loving friendliness. Sharon loved to laugh and have a good time, no matter the circumstances or company. She loved socializing with everyone she met and was beloved by so many for her generous spirit. Sharon was an admirably devout Christian in the Methodist Church, and she enjoyed regular Bible study. As a teacher, counselor, and volunteer, she gave her love, support, and time to so many students, community members, family members, friends, and strangers (who indeed were never strangers for very long). She truly enjoyed helping people in any way she could. Having grown up in Galveston, Texas, Sharon also loved the beach and the ocean. She loved animals (dogs especially), chocolate, soap operas, movies, The Beatles and Beach Boys, the Houston Texans football team, playing Canasta and Mahjong, drinking wine, dancing, celebrating the 4th of July and Christmas especially, and traveling (to just about anywhere), along with so much more. She had an adventurous spirit, having traveled to over 30 countries.
To put it simply, Sharon Jo Moore was an amazing woman who lived and loved joyfully and who was loved by so many. She indeed was an incredible person, and everyone in her proximity feels blessed to have known her. She will be dearly missed, but we now know that she is blissfully at peace with God (while cracking cheesy jokes in heaven).
Sharon’s Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, March 14th, 2026, at 2 p.m., and her ashes will be scattered in the Little Bay of Rockport, Texas, on Sunday, March 15th.
