In Loving Memory of Samuel “Sammy” Armando Garcia

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Samuel “Sammy” Armando Garcia—beloved partner, father, stepfather, Popo, and friend. Sam passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 60, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Rockport and raised in Three Rivers, Texas, Sam lived a life marked by kindness, hard work, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. In the Rockport area, he became a well-known plumber and was extremely proud of the success and strong reputation he built over the years. He took great pride in his craft, and his work ethic and integrity earned the respect and trust of countless customers and friends in the community.

When he wasn’t working, Sam loved to spend time outdoors—especially fishing. He enjoyed sharing his favorite fishing spots with his grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. He could also often be found chitchatting over his morning coffee with his buddies at a local restaurant, playfully telling jokes and happily delaying the start of the workday.

Sam is survived by his loving partner of thirty years, Palmira Govella, whose unwavering love and strength saw him through the most difficult months of his illness. He is also survived by his mother Alice H. Garcia, Corpus Christi, son Cody Samuel Garcia and 5 grandchildren, of San Marcus, a stepdaughter Gina Roach (Mark) and grandsons Randall and Reece all of Portland, a stepdaughter Erica Cantu, along with grandchildren Taylor Govella, Miguel, and Miles Cantu of San Antonio, his sisters - Dalia “Dolly” Quintanilla Ramirez of Three Rivers, Diana (Leonal) Villarreal of Edinberg, Elida Garcia of Dallas, Sara Reyes (Federico) of Rockport, and Patricia Garcia of Corpus Christi; brothers – David Garcia of Rockport, Gilbert (Ordalia) Garcia of Odem, and Jesse Garcia of Dallas and many numerous nieces and nephews.

Sam is preceded in death by his father Gasper Garcia, maternal grandparents Jesus and Angelita Herrera, paternal grandparents Estevan and Minga Garcia, his brothers Gasper Garcia, Billy Griffith, Donald Griffith, Richard Quintanilla and Edward Quintanilla.

A special acknowledgement to Floyd and Carolina Quintanilla of Three Rivers, for taking in a scared little boy and raising him into the man we absolutely adored. Sam always spoke so highly of the Quintanilla family and deeply appreciated all they did for him. He often said all the good in him was because of their love and faith in him.

Life wasn’t always easy for Sam, but each day he chose gratitude over resentment, joy over sorrow. He chose to see the beauty in the smallest things—and because of that, his life became more incredible than he could have ever imagined. We are so incredibly grateful he chose to share his life with us.
