Rudy Abrego, age 71, was called to his eternal home in Heaven with his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ on August 18, 2021. He fought the Good Fight. Rudy was born on July 15, 1950, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated from Aransas Pass ISD in May 1969.

Rudy is preceded in death by parents; Ramon Abrego and Palmira P. Abrego; brother, Richard Abrego and sister Rosie Martinez.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Vickie Abrego; his children, Lisa Abrego, Rudy Abrego, Jr. (Angie), Amy Abrego Longoria (Bobby), 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Brothers Ramon Abrego (Rosie), Ruben Abrego (Leticia), sisters Terry Zertuche, Yolanda Aguirre (Ralph), Vicki Bacon, Olga Tienda (Gregorio), Angie Abrego, Gracie Sandoval (Bobby) and Elizabeth Ramon (Roger).

Rudy was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. Rudy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was self-motivated and would go above and beyond with his work performance. He would say, “I do my best because it has my signature.” He took pleasure in doing his best.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church (Templo La Hermosa) of Aransas Pass.

His spiritual goal was the men’s ministry. He was always praying for the men’s heart to be in accordance with God’s will for blessings for their children and future generations.

Rudy’s dedication with the Men’s Ministry was noted in his passion. He sought ways to reach a higher spiritual level in God’s Word. One of his favorite major ministries was Promise Keepers. He attended many of their events. One of the events that stands out, was his attendance at the Million Men Gathering in Washington, DC.

Rudy had a servant’s heart. This was evident with his dedication of countless volunteer hours working tirelessly for non-profit organizations. The Chamber of Commerce annual Shrimporee, Tri-County Christian Service Center, Aransas Pass Little League, Aransas Pass ISD Board of Trustee member, Aransas Pass Housing Authority, Aransas Pass for Youth, three terms on the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Municipal Development District Board.

He retired from American Electric Company (AEP) after 50 years of employment.

Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Aransas Pass, TX.

Funeral Service will be held by Pastor Gilbert Gutierrez, Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Pentecostal Holiness Church, Templo La Hermosa. 303 N. 7th Street, Aransas Pass, TX. Interment to follow at Aransas Memorial Park.
