Robert Harold Wright, known to most as Bob or Master chief, passed away on December26, 2025. He was born February 1, 1945 to Harold Hudson Wright and Betty Marie Horton in Gate City, Virginia. He moved to Rockport in 1961 and always considered Texas home.

Robert, as he was known in high school, graduated from Aransas County High School in 1963.

Bob married the love of his life Betty Ann Armintrout on December 19, 1964, and had just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

Bob joined the US Navy on August 29,1963 and retired on February 28,1986. Advancing to the rank of Fire Control Master Chief. His career took him around the globe, through all seven seas and duty stations in Newport, RI; Naval Training Center Guantanamo Bay Cuba; NAS Memphis, Tenn; Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Ill; San Diego, Ca; Naval Training Center Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and NAS Corpus Christi. He traveled around the globe while his wife held down the various home bases with their two children. He served aboard the USS Washburn AKA-108, USS Parsons DD-949, USS Forrest Sherman DD-931, USS Badger DE-1071, USS Goldsborough DD-20, and USS Horne CG-30, where he also served as command Master Chief.

During his time in the Navy, he graduated from Memphis State Tech Institute with associate degrees in engineering, instrumentation, and vocational education. He received his Bachelor of Behavioral Science degree from Chaminade University in Hawaii.

After retirement he worked with the Family Service Center in Corpus Christi and Beeville serving as consultant between contractor and U.S. Naval air station commanding officers. Later he accepted a position teaching U.S Naval equipment usage and tactics to officers and men of various Gulf State Navies as well as training to Royal Saudi Naval Ships crews and Naval Cadets in Saudi Arabia.

During his golden years he enjoyed photography, especially of birds; a hobby he shared with his son Dustin. He also enjoyed his time being grandpa’s daycare for his only grandson Jayden and proudly watching him grow, later working on various projects together, especially those related to their love of Halloween and Christmas animatronics.He was also a voracious reader and an avid sports fan.

Bob was proceeded in death by his parents and half-brother David Wright, as well as his inlaws Buck and Martha Armintrout.

He is survived by his wife Betty, son Robert Dustin, daughter Heather Lianne and Grandson Jayden Robert, half-sister Denise Ringstaff and especially all his nieces and nephews, to whom he was known as Uncle Robert. A special thanks to Niece Marissa Whitstine, her husband Robbie and their children Ryker, Riley, Ryder, and Rylan, and Reece Young andher children Kennedy and Emerson for all their visits.

Bob's final resting place will be at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
