Robert O. Olive of Rockport, Texas, passed away peacefully June 1, 2025. He was born July 5, 1930, in Washington. D. C. to Rucker Henry Olive and Carrie Moore Olive. He spent his early life in Olivia, N. C., graduated from Benhaven High School, and, during the Korean War, joined the U. S. Air Force where he served as a link trainer instructor. He married Kathleen Burnett of San Marcos, Texas, February 12, 1954.
After discharge, he taught at the helicopter school in San Marcos, then returned to college, earning a B. S. degree from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) while working as a city policeman. He later received his M. S. from Our Lady of the Lake, San Antonio, and completed additional graduate courses at Texas A and M, Southwest Texas and other universities. He worked in private industry for several years and taught English to foreign students in pilot training at Randolph Air Force base, San Antonio, then joined San Antonio Independent School District. There he created a job placement program involving local businesses that agreed to provide promising graduates who were notable to attend college with jobs and training for purposeful careers. As a consequence of this approach to job placement, he gave newspaper and television interviews and talks to many interested groups, conducted a seminar at the University of Nevada and participated in a conference of educators in Washington, D. C. He also served as counselor, vocational counselor and C. V. A. E. director with the district until retirement to Rockport in 1989 where he was active in the local American Legion post.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, R. H. Olive of Charlotte, N. C., and Philip M. Olive of Olivia, N. C.; son, Jonathan B. Olive, and grandson, Nolen J. Olive, both of San Antonio.
He is survived by wife, Kathleen Olive of Rockport; sons, Robert R. olive and Bryan W. Olive, both of San Antonio, three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Arrangements are in the care of Charlie Marshall Funeral Home of Rockport, Texas. An inurnment will be held in San Marcos Cemetery with a private service to be held at a later date.
