Richard Bert Lockhart, 37, passed away on March 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of music, resilience, and unwavering individuality. Born on December 8, 1988, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Richard lived a life full of passion, creativity, and deep love for those closest to him.
Richard stood out from an early age. In high school, he excelled as an athlete, making his mark in both football and track, while also exploring his artistic side through theatre and music. Unbeknownst to him, a small twist of fate—his mother purchasing a guitar when he had asked for a bass—sparked what would become a lifelong devotion to music.
After graduation, Richard pursued football at the collegiate level in Southern California on scholarship. Though injuries ultimately cut his athletic career short, they led him back home to the Coastal Bend, where he discovered his true calling. Immersing himself fully in music, Richard became a cornerstone of the local scene, earning respect and admiration not only for his talent but also for his authenticity and spirit. He shared the stage with renowned artists including Stix, Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon, and Robert Earl Keen, leaving a lasting impression wherever he played.
Beyond music, Richard was truly a jack of all trades. He found joy in working with his hands and in the outdoors—whether as a handyman, gardener, fisherman, or hunter—and embraced life fully. Guided by his eccentric nature, quiet resilience, and unmistakable confidence, he was the kind of person who showed up without being asked, always ready to help and quietly stomp out any fires when needed.
Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard Sanchez, Carmen Montez, and Irma and Albert Lockhart Sr.; his uncle, Richard Sanchez Jr.; and his cousin, Robert Lyle Greene.
He is survived by his children, Brooklynn Estelle Lockhart (16) and Richard Gabriel Lockhart “Bubba” (15), along with their beloved dog, Pepper. They were the greatest joy of his life and at the heart of everything he did. He is also survived by his parents, Molly and Albert Lockhart; his siblings: Albert Lockhart (wife Charleen and their son, Noctis), Amelia Miller (husband Shawn and their daughter, Addison), and Andrew Lockhart (his son, Atlas); his uncle Mikey (Michael Lockhart, wife Stefanie, and their two sons, Ayden and Conner); his aunt Debbie Lockhart-Greene (and her daughter, Lex Owen); and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind a wide circle of friends, bandmates, and community members who were deeply touched by his presence and his music.
He will be remembered not only for the sound he created, but for the life he lived—boldly, passionately, and entirely on his own terms.
Visitation will be held at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 4-8pm. Richard’s funeral service will be Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 2pm.
