I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 NKJV
We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 NKJV
Ricky D Kincaid Sr, aka Lonesome Dove, age 73, passed away peacefully at home with his wife/caregiver, Melissa, and a stepdaughter, Jana, by his side. Rick went to his heavenly home with the Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2026. He was born in December 1952 in Tyler, Texas, raised in Cayuga - “so far back in the woods you had to go towards town to hunt” as Rick would say.
Rick married the love of his life, Melissa Kincaid, in June 2008, at Luckenbach, Texas under the picken circle tree. The 21 years they shared together was full of unconditional Love, happiness and so many adventures.. life was never dull!!
Rick graduated from Robert E Lee High School. After graduation Rick enlisted in the United States Navy serving his country honorably in Vietnam. For that service he received a National Defense Service Award.
If you knew Rick.. then you knew he was a man of many talents, storyteller, musician, vocalist, chef, preacher and so much more.
Returning home from his service he received a structural engineering degree. He spent 6 years with Lawrence Allison Consulting and Engineering as a Petroleum Production Consultant. When the oil field crashed in the 80’s he went back home to begin another adventure. He spent his days as a U.S. Bounty Hunter (search online for: A Former Bounty Hunter with Stories to Tell by StoryCorps.org / NPR) to hear just one of the many stories he shared! Then he was Bond Enforcement Agent & Tracking Expert.
Rick’s life landed him in Central Texas working in the steel industry, then in the commercial and residential construction industry where he met his beautiful wife at the Koehler Company in Seguin, Tx. While building the St. Mary’s Catholic School Gym in Fredericksburg, Tx they made many friends and decided to make Fredericksburg, Tx their home. Many afternoons and weekends were spent at Luckenbach, Texas; playing and singing, working security for special events, making lifelong friends, winning the award for the oldest cowboy hat and preached his first sermon there in the bar next to the old stove!
Rick & Melissa are both Privates with the Former Texas Rangers Foundation.
In 2010, Rick recorded a Gospel CD with the cover song “Cherokee Bible” being co-written with Jack Swim. In 2022, Rick was awarded CBGMA Male Soloist of the Year, and 2023, Rick & Melissa as Lonesome Dove Ministries was awarded CBGMA Duo of the Year!
In 2017, after deciding to retire near the water, Hurricane Harvey took their home. Rick decided to put away his guns, and He picked up the Bible! Lonesome Dove Ministries was established, where Evangelist Rick shared daily prayers and sermons online to his large media ministry. He spent the past year serving the Lord as a Sheppard to the Lagarto Community Church in Sandia, Texas! Where the flock has mentioned they learned so much in such a short time, they loved him and he will be missed! He brought souls closer to God sharing his knowledge of the Bible. His wife promised him she would continue his online ministry.
