Raymond was born in San Antonio, Tx to Crispin R Cortez and Elena F Cortez on May 30, 1956. He passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 24, 2026 at the age of 70.

Raymond lived his life as a loving husband, father, “Popo” to his grandchildren, brother and friend. Raymond was known as a hard working man, excellent cook, and jokester. Most people in the community remember him as the tamale man. He loved cooking for anyone who liked to eat.

He is preceded in death by parents; Crispin & Elena Cortez, sister; Sophia Cortez, brothers Johnny Cortez and Jesse Cortez.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia F Cortez; sons, Raymond Cortez Jr. (Jessica) & Michael Flores (Melinda); daughters, Jacqueline Jasso (Enrique), Ida Gonzales (Daniel), Tiffany Hernandez (Joey); grandchildren: Alicia Cortez, Sophia Cortez, Mary Jane Cortez, Enrique Jasso Jr, Megan Jasso, Ryan Jasso (Marisol), Miguel (Mikey) A Ayala III, Derek R Gonzales, Damian Hernandez, Thomas Flores, & Serenity Flores; and siblings Vangie Jimenez(Joe), Oralia Contreras(David), Robert Cortez(Juanita), Roland Cortez(Helen), and Crispin Cortez

Visitation will be held from 4-8PM on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass. The Rosary will begin at 7PM. The Funeral Mass for Raymond will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 10AM. Graveside will follow at Aransas Memorial Park.
