Raymond Cappel

December 21, 1928 — August 8, 2023

Rockport, Texas

Raymond (Ray) L. Cappel left this world on August 8, 2023. Ray was born near Washington Town, Ohio where he was raised on a farm with his family and grew up performing all the duties required of farm life. Ray attended Ohio University and graduated with a chemical engineering degree in 1946. He later served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corp as a chemist and was discharged from the army in 1953. Ray worked for Texaco Chemicals as regional sales manager where he eventually became general sales manager. Ray traveled extensively while working for Texaco and helped with the development of multiple products for the chemical division. Golf was always a big part of Rays life and he played at many of the finest golf courses all around the country and with many celebrities. Golf was his passion, and he was an avid and good golfer. Always Mr. right down the middle of the fairway! During that time with Texaco, he was married to his first wife Virginia where they lived in Houston until her passing. Ray later married Jo Cappel and they moved to Rockport, Texas where they lived a more relaxed lifestyle and were married for over 30 years. Ray continued to live the good life and the golf life in Rockport and made numerous friends on and off the course while his game and life continued to improve.

Ray is survived by his sister, Jo Ann Dividen, stepson’s Scott and Kent Whittington, multiple nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all who loved him dearly. Ray will be missed by all who knew him and his everlasting and infectious smile and good, sweet nature. He will be missed terribly but never forgotten.
