Rockport

Preston Keith Wells, aged 63, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026 surrounded by his family and loved ones in his family’s home in Rockport Texas. Preston was born May 1st, 1962 in Denver City, Tx to Carol Matthews and James Wells.

Though born in Denver City, Preston and his family had moved to Rockport Texas at an early point in his life and it was here, and in Corpus Christi that he would spend most of his life. He had four children throughout his time, also forming a plethora of lifelong relationships, lifelong hobbies and going on all types of adventures, making sure to tell the tales - leaving an impression on the people fortunate enough to cross his path throughout life.

Preston lived an expressive life marked by resilience, love, and friendliness. Preston made sure to never spend any minute of his free time doing something that he didn’t enjoy, even if that meant doing as many things he could at once just to keep himself busy - that being said it is no exaggeration to say that his hobbies consisted of doing a little bit of nearly everything. Some of the greater things Preston grew up with was biking and skating, and later on this love for these hobbies only developed into surfing, and motorcycle riding, and for Preston - nothing else came close to for him. Journeying on his bike, and riding waves on his board everywhere he could with every chance he got. Unfortunately a motorcycle accident occurred and led to a hip replacement surgery at a young age only making this harder for him to do for the remainder of his life but, it never stopped him from trying, and he certainly did express this, whether it was through biking, anything mechanical or aviation related, fishing, kayaking and honestly anything including the water, Preston wanted to reach all greater ends of each spectrum, doing this up to the end of his full life. Preston made sure that he wouldn’t lose his connection with these things and he used it as an opportunity to spend time and share unforgettable experiences with his loved ones. Though there was another (and possibly greater) thing that comes to mind when people think of Preston - his creativity and love for art. All forms of art were tried by his hand at some point and so it turned out he especially had an affinity for painting, and it was one of his greatest joys over his lifetime, with evidence of this being the fact that through this time he had made over at least 20 detailed paintings! These paintings consisted of anything from fishermen reeling in reds in the bay, to depictions of native americans in old America. His love for getting that attention to detail showed clearly through his pieces as was a talented sculptor/woodworker as well, and truly this spiritual connection that belonged to Preston knew no bounds as any idea that ran through his head never left time wasted to bring it to life, leaving his creativity on full display.

Preston loved his family, friends, art, nature, helping others, and making unforgettable memories in this town of Rockport. His generous heart, warmth and easygoing spirit will be remembered and dearly missed by all who knew him.

Preston is preceded in death by his father James wells; his stepfather Jack Matthews; and his older sister Pam (Michael) Charbonneau.

He is survived by his Mother Carol (Jack) Matthews ; Uncle Geary Martin; Aunt Mary Wells; his sister, Melinda (James) Bronson; his brother, Phillip Logsdon; Stepbrother Jack (Julie) Matthews; sons, Cody Burns, Sean Wells and Jacob Wells; his daughter Patricia Ruscello, along with numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and many other family members and friends who will miss him very dearly.

A cremation was taken care of by his dear friend Robert Ayala and will likely place the celebration of life at Robert’s home which Preston was a caretaker and groundskeeper at, but a service is not yet planned. Friends and loved ones will be made aware of the time and place it will be held.
