Placido S. Ortiz Sr.

Aransas Pass

Placido S. Ortiz Sr., the son of Gregorio Ortiz and Ventura S. Ortiz, was born on October 5,1935 in Banquete, TX. On the afternoon of June 14, 2025, he went to join his God in heaven. He was 89 years old. Placido Sr. was a graduate of Banquete High School and after high school joined the United States Army. He served his time and was honorably discharged.

He married Aurora (Lola) Ybarra in Plainview, TX on May 5, 1962. Soon after moved to Aransas Pass and raised 8 children. He was employed by L.L. Harris as a Manager for many years and continued to help his parents on the family farm. Before and after retirement he worked as a groundskeeper for St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church. If he wasn’t at work or the family farm, you could find him at church. He liked to sit at the Seaman’s Memorial Tower and watch the ocean waves. He loved watching old western tv shows and his favorite team “Dallas Cowboys” play football. In his late years he liked eating his ice cream before his meals.

Placido Sr. is survived by his children: Paula (Jose Manuel) Meza, Aransas Pass TX, Payton Patrick Ortiz, Aransas Pass TX, Mary Lou Adame, Ingleside TX, Placido Ortiz Jr., Owatonna MN, Maria Odilia (Joe) Flores Sr., Medford MN, Simona (Jeremy) Hellevik, Owatonna MN, Ramon Ortiz, Tulsa OK, and Gregorio (Cheryl) Ortiz, Dallas TX. Grandchildren: Jose Andres, Stephanie, Jennifer, Billy, Payton Patrick Jr., Christopher, Hope, Joe Flores Jr., Esteban, Miranda, Dwight, Mitchel, Karrine, Matthew,Kimberlee, Morgan and 7 great grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Gregorio and Ventura Ortiz, his brother Manuel Ortiz, his sisters Gilberta Ortiz, Juanita Deleon, Florentina Diaz, Ofelia Armadillo and son-in-law Armando Adame.

Join us Thursday, June 26, 2025, for a public visitation from 6-9pm and 7pm rosary at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, TX. Friday, June 27th funeral mass 10am at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Aransas Pass, TX. with burial at San Antonio DePadua Cemetery. Pallbearers: Manuel Ortiz, Oscar Ortiz, Jose Andres Meza, Christopher Adame, Joe Deleon and Joe Diaz.

As we say goodbye to our father, we know he is finally at peace and is happily in the company of his family and friends who have gone before him.

The family would like to thank the Coastal Palms Nursing Home and Harbor Hospice.
