ARANSAS PASS, TX - Patrick Joseph O’Connell passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1955 to John E. O’Connell and the late Joan T. O’Connell in Barstow, CA, while his father served there in the Marine Corps.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 25 years, Beth O’Connell of Aransas Pass; sons, Ryan Lewis (Shellie) of Lancaster, OH and Kyle Temmen of Prescott, AZ; daughter Brittany Temmen of Aransas Pass; Grandchildren Alex, Zayne, and Rylee; father and stepmother John and Vicki O’Connell of Brighton, MI; brothers and sisters, Kathleen Reid, John O’Connell (Donna), Ann O’Connell, Bill O’Connell (Beth) and Michael O’Connell; nephews, Sean Reid (Svetlana) and Connor Reid, John, Brock and William O’Connell; nieces Ashley Sullivan (Chris) and Josie O’Connell; mother-in-law Carol Olson (Eugene); sisters-in-law Barbara Leathers (Gary), Linda Arbuckle (Paul); brother-in-law Russell C. Mumaw; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition, he will be sorely missed by his dear friend Gail White of Rockport.
Pat grew up in North Easton, MA, where he attended North Easton Grammar School and played junior hockey. He moved with his family to Plymouth, MI, where he excelled at hockey and graduated from Plymouth High School. He worked for General Motors at the Spring and Bumper plant in Plymouth for 20 years before branching into grocery management with Meijers, where he met his future wife, Beth Temmen. They married in 2000 and subsequently relocated to Aransas Pass in 2003 to manage his father-in-law, Russ Mumaw’s furniture and flooring business, Discount Mattress and Rustic Furniture in Rockport. Most recently, he enjoyed his time with IGA in Port Aransas.
Pat’s family greatly misses his love and dedication, particularly his grandsons Alex and Zayne, to whom he offered daily guidance. He was kind and generous to all his friends and the people he met. He was always prepared to tell you a story from his life or discuss the latest news and impart his wit, wisdom, and humor. He had a joy for life that was infectious. Pat could be found on many days golfing at the Sinton Municipal Golf course, where he enjoyed an annual membership. He took every opportunity to visit Michigan for family celebrations and to golf with his father and brothers. He also loved the beaches and sun of Cape Cod and Port Aransas. His nickname, “Red,” was originally for his strawberry blond hair, but red could also describe his sunburned Irish skin.
Celebrations of life will be held this summer in Rockport, TX, and Plymouth, MI areas.
