Oscar Piña Sr. passed away at his home in Rockport Texas on May 02, 2025. He was 71 years of age. He was born September 27, 1953 in Rockport Texas to Alfredo G. and Avelina F. Piña.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Avelina, his brother Joe Gilbert and his son-in-law Jimmy D. Smith.
Oscar will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted family. He is survived by his first love, his wife of 51 years, Janet Reyes Piña from Berclair Texas; his eight children, Oscar Piña Jr. of Rockport, Lisa C. Smith of Baytown Texas, Elizabeth A. Hardy (Roy) of Rockport, Crystal J. Kuhn (Dennis) of Rockport, Jennifer L. Piña (Jeff Ebel) of Rockport, Jeramie R. Piña of Rockport, Sandi M. Piña (Jeremie Hernandez Sr) of Rockport, and Karlie E. Piña of Rockport, Texas. He also has 3 brothers Alfred Piña Jr, Roy Piña, Lionel Piña and his sister Diana P. Solis.
Oscar (Popo) as he was lovingly called, had 16 grandchildren, Cameron Piña, Jarod Smith, Kaleb Piña, Trever Hernandez, Damion Hernandez (Bella), Jeremie Hernandez Jr (Haileigh), Rayelynn Piña, Landon Smith, Sadie Piña, Charlotte Kuhn, Iris Kuhn, Hailee Hernandez, Wesley Kuhn, Layla Piña-Ebel, Elliott Piña-Ebel, Olivia J Piña-Ebel. Oscar also had 4 great-grandchildren, Tatum Piña, Carter Hernandez, Camille Hernandez and Jeremie Hernandez III. During his lifetime, Oscar was the owner of Piña's Automotive and successfully operated it for over 24 years, while he supported and raised his family and then in 1988 he decided to run for Aransas County Commissioner Pct 1-1A, for which he was successfully elected and served the county for over 20 years, before his retirement.
The Piña Family would like to acknowledge Harbor Hospice for their support and care during his illness. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport, Texas. A funeral service will be held the following day, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home with burial to follow at Aransas Memorial Park.
