Minerva Carbajal Pena, 86, died unexpectedly on October 24, 2020, at Corpus Christi Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born December 31, 1933 in Tivoli, Texas to Martin and Theodora Carbajal.
Minerva was an avid reader who could devour a novel in a day. She enjoyed sewing and loved making baby blankets for her grandchildren and special friends. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Minerva was renowned for her three-layer cakes, delicious fruit pies, and tasty tamales. Music and dancing brought her such joy. Fellowship with friends to pray, enjoy Christian music, and share bible verses was also a favorite pastime. Minerva was a “Prayer Warrior” for the many people who crossed her path. She brought many people to the Lord through her prayers and faith, which provided healing and spiritual uplifting.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Enrique Carbajal. She is survived by her loving companion, Nathan Hubbard, her children Rudy (Patricia)Pena of Corpus Christi, Texas, Laura Pena (Susana)of Manvel, Texas, Raymond Pena of Cameron, North Carolina, Nelda (Mark) Swetish of Beaumont, Texas, and David (Longina) Pena of Corpus Christi, Texas. ; her sister, Estella Riojas of Rockport, Texas; 17 grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to all the people at the Corpus Christi Nursing and Rehabilitation facility for the wonderful care that they gave her, especially during the COVID crisis when family members were not allowed to visit.
Visitation will be held at 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home.Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2020, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home located at 814 E. Main St. In Rockport.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with social distancing orders, all necessary restrictions will be observed in order to protect the health and safety of those in attendance. Wear face coverings while inside the building. Continue to practice social distancing while inside the funeral home chapel. We continue to ask that those at risk or those not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our obituary page.
