Michael Willis Hynes

Michael Willis Hynes of Rockport, TX was called to the Lord on May 22, 2026. Though he will be missed dearly, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his mother, Doris Dean Young Hynes, his father, T. Willis “Ty” Hynes, and his younger brother, Patrick Dean Hynes.

Michael considered his family to be the greatest gift that could be given a man on this Earth. He was utterly selfless in his work for them, and his love and pride for them knew no bounds. 

Michael treasured history, and he cherished his family’s deep roots in Rockport and the Coastal Bend. He delighted in recounting stories about South Texas and the colorful men and women who inhabited it. 

Michael took joy in serving the Rockport community. He was the president and owner of Hynes Services, Inc., which has worked in the community for over 60 years. He was also the president of the Rockport Cemetery Association. 

Above all, Michael was an unwavering and untiring servant of God. Everything he did, he did from a love of our Lord and out of a devotion to Mary. His Catholic faith, stalwart and enduring, was a pillar of strength for his family. As well, Michael inspired and shaped the faith of so many others. He ministered tirelessly throughout the Diocese of Corpus Christi - for the Church and for God’s people.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Cathy Elaine Hynes; his three sisters, Bobby Rae Turnbull, Fran Gudim, and Molly Hynes Collinsworth; his seven children, Michael Hynes (Christina), Cathleen Worley (Steve), Sean Hynes (Randa), Megan Barrett, Molly Hynes (David), Patrick Hynes (Amanda), and Doris Naquin (Chase); and his twenty-two grandchildren.
