Mary Brooks, a beloved matriarch and embodiment of compassion, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at the venerable age of 102. Born on November 22, 1922, in the quaint town of Haynesville, Louisiana, Mary illuminated the lives of those around her with an unyielding warmth and a spirit characterized by profound care for others.
A devoted mother, Mary was the proud progenitor of three sons: Robert G. Brooks, Mark D. Brooks, and Mike A. Brooks. Throughout her life, she fostered an environment of love and support that resonated through generations. Her legacy extends beyond her children, encompassing a cherished group of grandchildren, including Mark E. Brooks (Shelley), Robert A. Brooks, and Robert W. Brooks (Melissa), each of whom held a special place in her heart. As a grandmother, her joy was multiplied with the arrival of great-grandchildren: Ashley Murphy (Phillip), Gage E. Brooks, Skylette, and Airlia. The legacy of her nurturing spirit continued to thrive in her great-great-grandchildren, Joshua Murphy, Emily Brooks, and Jayden Brooks, all of whom brought immeasurable delight to her latter years.
Mary's journey in life, although marked by her illustrious familial ties, was also one of faith and purpose. She was baptized in August of 1983, solidifying her connection to the sacred and the community that embraced her. Throughout her life, her caring nature was perceptible in every interaction, enveloping friends and family alike in her compassionate presence.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marie Douglas, as well as her brothers, Walter R. Douglas, and Greig C. Douglas and great-great-granddaughter; Laylah Garcia—each of whom she honored in her heart and memories.
The enduring legacy of Mary Brooks is one that will resonate through the halls of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where family and friends are invited to celebrate her life. A Mass will be held on August 21, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM. The church, located at 209 N Church St, Rockport, Texas, will serve as a fitting backdrop to commemorate the life of a woman whose kindness and love left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary Brooks may no longer walk among us, but her spirit will forever illuminate the hearts of those she touched, guiding us toward the ideals of love, compassion, and familial devotion that she so effortlessly embodied.
