Obituary

Martha Shelton Truitt—born on November 9, 1935, to Huntly and Ruby Shelton, in Springdale, Texas. At the age of 90, she breathed her last breath on August 2, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. She was a resident of Aransas Pass, Texas and a graduate from Aransas Pass High School.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy Truitt Sr.; her daughter, Dara Jane Davila; and her sister, Nan Shelton Herndon.

She was a devoted mother, beloved spouse, treasured grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, loving sister, and dear friend. Her family, her greatest pride and legacy, will forever hold dear the memory of her unconditional love and selfless care. Martha is survived by her loving children: LeRoy Truitt, Jr.(Leah), Debbie Springs(Allan), Christi Vasquez(Rene), and Charles Truitt, as well as her son-in-law, Reuben Davila Sr.; each of whom carries forward her kind-heartedness and resolve. She is also survived by her brother, Colonel Huntly Shelton, Jr.(Ret).

Martha cherished her role as grandmother, and the joy she found in her grandchildren was apparent to all who knew her. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Crystal Scott, Rocky Curby, Lisa Vasquez, Rene Vasquez, Sonya Mize, Richie Cole, Scott Springs, Ben Davila, Charles Davila, LeRoy Davila, Justin Truitt, Aaron Dietrich, Trey Woodrome, and Misty Woodrome. She also had 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Martha was a librarian at the Aransas Pass Public Library for many years. She enjoyed working with pottery and ceramics. When it came time for Halloween, she took joy in making most of the kids costumes! She had a passion for her family heritage and genealogy. When filling in the names of relatives on the family tree, if she couldn't find a relatives name, it was nothing for her to drop everything and head to the cemetery and start looking at headstones to find the missing information she was looking for.

While her earthly journey has ended, Martha’s spirit continues to live on through the memories she made, the love she gave, and the family she nurtured. The values she instilled—loyalty, humility, and faith—will serve as a beacon for generations to come. Her laughter, warm embrace, and quiet strength will remain forever imprinted in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

A graveside service celebrating Martha Shelton Truitt’s life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie View Cemetery, located at 4424 FM 1069, Aransas Pass, Texas 78336. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a remarkable woman whose legacy is woven into each life she touched.

The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Dr. Jerome Lee Sang and all the personnel from Harbor Hospice!
