Mary Aldape Adame went to her eternal home on April 20, 2026. She was born in Aransas Pass, Texas, on June 14, 1937, to Domingo and Maria (Martinez) Aldape.
Mary graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1956 and later married her lifelong partner, Joe Adame. Together, they raised three sons.
Mary lived most of her life with limited sight, yet she never let that stop her. Instead, she faced life with remarkable determination, resilience, and strength. Mary was also known for her stubbornness; when she set her mind to something, there was no way of changing it. That same stubbornness is what fueled her independence and helped her live her life with dignity.
Mary not only raised her three boys, but she also babysat and helped care for her grandchildren and countless other children over the years, opening her home and offering a steady presence to these children that she continued to love and cherish her entire life.
Mary created lasting memories in her kitchen. She was especially known for her tortillas and pancakes. Making tortillas and pancakes for her grandchildren was her secret way of getting the family to come over for breakfast. But it was more than breakfast; it was love.
Mary loved watching her “stories” and staying connected with friends and family. She loved talking on the phone, often for hours, sharing her daily routine, advice, and love. She looked forward to those conversations, and they were often the highlight of her day.
Above all, Mary was the foundation of her family. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she raised, and the memories she leaves behind. She will be remembered for her perseverance, independence, strength—and, of course, her tortillas and pancakes.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Domingo and Maria Aldape; her husband, Joe Adame; her sister, Elenor Hernandez; her brother, Louis Aldape; and her daughter-in-law, Bridgett Adame.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry Adame, Jaime Adame, and Joseph Adame; her grandchildren, Jordan Adame (Jeremy), Caleb Adame, and Jana Adame; her great-grandchildren, Avi Canales, Orson Thomas, and Gianna Adame; and her daughter-in-law, Shelley Lewis.
She is also survived by her brothers, Alberto Aldape, Juan (Linda) Aldape, Domingo (Maggie) Aldape, and Vicente (Sue) Aldape, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Liza Arizmendez Flores, Lee Johnson, Misty Gunn, and the caregivers at Harbor Hospice and The Pavilion for their patience and compassionate care for our mother.
A special thank you is also given to Aurora Lopez for the love and kindness shown to our mother during her final days.
