Margaret Simmons Mitchell

Margaret entered her eternal resting place on August 17th, 2022, at UTMB Jeannie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 14th, 1968, to Willie Roy Simmons and Betty Duncan Simmons in Galveston, Texas. She grew up in Rockport, Texas, and attended Rockport public schools. Margaret was married to the late Thomas Mitchell Sr. they raised two children, Thomas Mitchell Jr., and Ashley Simmons.

Margaret was an amazing cook she worked as the head prep cook for Virginias on the Bay in Port Aransas, Texas for over 17 years, she was known for her famous bread pudding that was placed on the menu for the clients to enjoy Big M’s bread pudding! She also demonstrated her extraordinary culinary skills at many church functions. Margaret was an active member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Aransas Pass, Texas. She was a faithful member for most of her adult life, for most of those years she was known as Big M.

Preceding Margaret in death was her husband, Thomas Mitchell Sr, and grandchild, Terrell Lamar Simmons. Left to mourn are her children, Ashley Simmons, and Thomas Mitchell Jr.; parents, Willie Roy and Betty Simmons; brother, Bobby Simmons (Kayla); sister, Lisa Simmons and Tomeka Lott; and a number of nieces, nephews, and family and friends whom loved Margaret deeply.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 9:00 am until service time of 1:00 pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes in Aransas Pass, Texas. Burial will follow at the Prairie View Cemetery also in Aransas Pass, Texas.
