Lola Jean Smith, age 89, passed into her eternal heavenly home on January 29, 2026 in Corpus Christi, Texas, by natural causes.
Lola was born in Rockport, Texas, on July 14, 1936, to Henry and Earline Ballou of Rockport. She graduated from Rockport High School in 1953 and later attended Del Mar and Texas A &I Universities. Lola married Travis Lee Smith on July 4, 1958,in Rockport, Texas. Lola lived in Rockport, Riviera, Kingsville, Baytown, Antwerp, Belgium, and Agua Dulce, Texas before moving back to Rockport for retirement in 2000.
Lola married Travis Lee Smith on July 4th, 1958. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Rockport, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Lola’s greatest accomplishments include her marriage of 63 years and seeing her children and grandchildren graduate from college and become responsible adults.
Lola had various occupations, including: Ticket Agent for Braniff Airlines in Corpus Christi; 35+ years as an Administrative Assistant with the Robstown Riverside Hospital and the Agua Dulce ISD; A Registered Bridal Consultant for Gifts Galore Gift Shop in Alice, and Manager of Charle’ Verde Ladies Fine Apparel Store in Kingsville before retiring to Rockport.
Those who knew Lola will remember her for her engaging personality and love for sports, especially her three favorites - St Louis Cardinals baseball, Dallas Cowboys football, and Texas Aggies – Whoop! Second favorites were the Astros and the Houston Texans…allegedly.
Lola once shared that her favorite places to visit during her travels were London, England, Zurich, Switzerland,and always, Las Vegas!!
Lola and family loved and appreciated her caregivers, especially Denese Dye and her husband Bob, for their love and support for Lola in her last 4 years!
Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Earline Ballou, her brother Richard Ballou, her sister Patti Stewart, her daughter Theresa Smith Jones, and her husband Travis Smith.
Lola is survived by her sons Layne (Brenda) Smith of Kingwood, Craig Smith of Laguna Vista, her grandchildren Jennifer (Clay) Williams of Rockport, Cody (Valerie) Smith of Clear Lake, Colton (Ana) of Conroe, and Courtney Smith (Bailey) Puckett of Kingwood, her great-grandchildren Nathan Terhune of Rockport, Maddie (Matthew) Spradlin of Port-land, Sophie Williams of Rockport and Natalie, Clayton and Juliette Smith of Clear Lake Tx.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport Tx from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held February 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Rockport Tx. Interment will follow at Lamar Cemetery in Lamar, TX. Reception after Interment at First Presbyterian Church.
