Cowan III (Jenn), Robbi Carmean(Sterling), Andrew Brymer (Amber), Kristen Kemp, KelliKemp, Chelsea Kemp. Sister,0 Darline (the late George) West; Bothers: Robert Cowan (Connie), David Cowan (Glenda); Numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Lewis Cowan was born of W.A. and Dorothy Cowan in 1937. He surrendered his life to the Lord and was born again in 1956, at 19 years old. He told the Lord, “I will go where You tell me to go, I will do what You tell me to do, and I will speak what You tell me to speak.” This prayer and promise became his mission statement which he faithfully fulfilled for 70 years.
Straight from High School, Lewis joined the United States Airforce looking to travel the world. He served his country as a medic and travelled all the way to Victoria Texas. After his time in the Airforce, Lewis pursued his love of flying by becoming a licensed multi-engine pilot.
In 1955 he married Patsy Cowan. She was devoted to him, her family and their church family. Lewis and Patsy’s door was always open and their phone was always answered day or night to minister God’s great mercy to all who were in need(Matthew 11:28).
Singing and playing the piano was a favorite pastime, especially with family joining with harmony and other instruments. He and Patsy, his beloved wife, wrote songs together, which can be heard on the New Testament Church web page. They also would sometimes even dance in their living room!
Lewis worked in the engineering and construction industry as a Senior Estimator and Project Manager. He also owned an Inspection business for years. He had several certifications and honors in the area of construction engineering. He was a good and hard working employee as well as employer. In his leisure time, Lewis enjoyed motorcycle riding and shooting his guns.
He graduated from Baptist Christian College with a Bachelor’sdegree. Lewis was a licensed and ordained minister in the Baptist Church. After many years of pastoring churches in the coastal bend area he founded the Ingleside Church of the New Testament in 1978 where he faithfully served 45 years as Minister, preaching, teaching, officiating weddings and funerals, and visiting the sick and hospitalized. He retired Pastor Emeritus in 2023, after which he continued to preach and teach God’s Word.
Lewis desired to be God’s light, life and love to everyone. One of his favorite teachings from the Word of God was: Body, Soul and Spirit. This is how humans are designed, and they must be born again. When one is born again, the Holy Spirit comes to reside in their spirit. A new life starts, and there is a journey that starts wherein one grows as they keep looking unto Jesus, as Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:18). This became our legacy.
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD
