Lea Daniel

June 10, 1925 — March 12, 2021

Victoria

On March 12, 2021 Lea Roy Daniel went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 95.  Lea was loved by many.  He was a gentleman to the end; kind, courteous and considerate to all.  Lea was a tough and tender warrior in every regard.  Lea was born on the family farm on June 10th 1925 in Hitson Community, Fisher Co, TX to George Abney and Birdie Naoma Daniel.  He is survived by his daughter Nancy Kathleen (Kay) Daniel Simmons and husband Kim of Victoria, Texas; his son, Paxton Holt Daniel and wife Theresa, of Ireland.  He is also survived by three grandsons – William, Michael and Cooper -  and one granddaughter – Kathleen.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Moore Daniel, and his brothers Truett, Barton and Guy Daniel along with his sister, Louise Page, of Odessa, Texas.  All of us have wonderful memories and thoughts of Lea.

Lea and his siblings attended a one-room schoolhouse until His parents moved them to Abilene Texas when he was 10 years old.  His father, Abney, stayed to work the farm while his mother took care of their five children in Abilene.  Lea went back to work on the farm every summer until he was 16 years old and then worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company.  Lea graduated from Abilene High School.  In 1943 Lea joined the Army Air Corp during World War II and attained the rank of corporal.  Lea received his law degree from the University of Texas in Austin in 1949 and passed the bar exam in Texas, then moved to El Paso Texas and went into private practice.  In 1951-52 Lea served as a Captain with the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea in the Judge Advocate General Corps.

In 1953 Lea was employed as an attorney for El Paso Natural Gas Company.  While working for the gas company he met the love of his life, Nancy Moore.  He continued to work at the EP Natural Gas Company until he went in to private practice in 1974.  He and Nancy were dedicated members and elders at First Presbyterian for over 50 years.  Lea heard a seminary professor named Haddon Robinson in 1984 and believed in Jesus Christ for eternal life.  Lea was involved in numerous ministries including an orphanage in Juarez Mexico, drilling a water well for a village of 600 people in Guatemala, organizing and streamlining estates for numerous people in their church who had no family members to help them out.

Lea always made others feel special.  He was an incredible husband, father and grandfather who spent every chance he got with those he loved.  He loved to hunt and was an excellent marksman.  Lea restored a 1967 Mustang and took care of his motorhome so that he and Nancy could travel all over the country with Nancy’s brother and sister-in-law, William and Meredith Moore.

Lea lost his beloved wife Nancy in 2010 and took it very hard.  He continued to serve in his church and had many friends to share life with.  Lea moved to Victoria Texas in 2015 to be closer to his daughter, Kay Simmons.  Lea had a sharp mind and read extensively.  He never lost his love for God and continued to learn and study the Bible.  He always had questions for Kim, his son-in-law, especially about Bible prophecy and the Book of Revelation.  Lea was looking forward to joining his loved ones in eternity.
