Juan Samuel “Sammy” Martinez, age 70, a lifelong resident of Rockport, Texas, passed away on January 29, 2026, at Harbor Hospice in Portland, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
Sammy was born on July 22, 1955, in Aransas Pass, Texas, to Santiago and Maria Martinez. He spent his life working in the oilfield and as a truck driver and was known as a man of many trades. There was nothing too difficult for Sammy—he could fix, build, or figure out just about anything with patience and determination.
Family meant everything to Sammy. He loved spending time with family and friends, whether barbecuing, dancing, or simply sitting and talking. He found joy in organizing his storage room, relaxing in his backyard watching the deer go by, and watching his favorite western movies. A devoted sports fan, Sammy was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys supporter and remained loyal through every season.
Sammy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Amanda Martinez; his children, Santiago "Jimmy" Martinez (Linda) and Rosie Wilson (Dan) and daughter-in-law Victoria Martinez; and his cherished grandchildren, Junior, Samantha, Juanito, Beau, and Jonathan. He is also survived by his sister, Andrea Hart (Mike); his sister-in-law, Pepi Martinez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Maria Martinez; his son, Timothy Martinez; his brother, Jim Martinez; his sisters, Mickie Barrera and Felipa Flores; and his brother-in-law, Robert Barrera.
Sammy will be remembered for his hard work, his generosity, his love of family, and the simple moments he treasured most. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him
