Joseph C. Smith Jr.
June 30, 1943 – June 27, 2026
It is with profound sadness, but also deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, that we announce the passing of Joseph C. Smith Jr., lovingly known to many as “Smitty,” who passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at the age of 82.
Joe was born on June 30, 1943, in Alvin, to his loving parents, Ida Bell Smith and Joseph C. Smith Sr. From the very beginning, Joe carried with him the kindness, warmth, and easy smile that would become the hallmark of the life he lived.
Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army for ten years, achieving the rank of E-6. Following his military service, he dedicated over thirty years to the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a respected Head Window Clerk, known for his reliability, hard work, and friendly spirit.
On August 4, 1978, Joe married the love of his life, Kathy, beginning a marriage built on enduring love, loyalty, laughter, and partnership. This August, they would have celebrated 48 wonderful years together. Together they built a beautiful family and raised their beloved daughter, Jennifer Boehm, who remained one of Joe’s greatest joys.
To know Joe was truly to love Joe. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome. Whether sharing a story, offering a helping hand, or simply greeting someone with that familiar smile, Joe brought warmth wherever he went. He was the kind of man people naturally gravitated toward — genuine, kindhearted, and steady in all the ways that matter most.
Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Kathy Smith; daughter, Jennifer Boehm; son-in-law, Deacon Danny Boehm; granddaughters, Kayla Klossner of Charleston and Tricia Boehm of Rockport; precious great-granddaughter, Emma; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were made better simply by knowing him.
Visitation will be held on July 9, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm At Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Tx. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on July 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass. Burial will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, where he will receive full military honors in recognition of his faithful service to his country.
Joe lived a life defined by service, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
And for those who loved him best, perhaps no memory will bring a smile faster than hearing the word he so often said — “Mercy.” A simple expression that, like Joe himself, carried warmth, sincerity, and a spirit that will never be forgotten.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.
