John Yarbrough

October 28, 1950 — April 19, 2023

John Thomas Yarbrough Jr. left this world to join the Lord in the early morning hours of April 19th, 2023 surrounded by his closest family.

This pillar of a man was born in Laurel, Mississippi on October 28th, 1950 to John Thomas Yarbrough Sr. And Emma Lee Dykes though he was raised by (Bill) William Jimmie Black.

After highschool John served during the Vietnam war as a member of the Air Force, then 34 years as a police officer in the SAPD South Dogwatch where he retained many friends throughout the years, he then settled down in the sleepy town of Rockport to enjoy his retirement.

John is preceded in death by mother (Emma), father (Bill), and brother (Edward Parker).

John is survived by a loving wife of 25 years (Wanda Yarbrough), son (Mitchell Stoddard and wife Isabela), son (Nicholas Stoddard and wife Emily), daughter (Beth Bates and husband Chad ), niece (Teri Tschirhart and husband Robert), niece (Cheri Wiese and husband Butch), and 4 grandchildren (Belle Stoddard and mother Stephanie Sanchez, Amelia Stoddard, Payne Bates-Marquez, Addison Bates) along with extended family such as brothers-in-law(Gentry Banis and wife Evangelina, James Banis and wife Tanya, Daniel Banis and wife Dorothy, and Benjamin Banis Jr. and wife Pamela) along with many others.

He left a legacy of love, compassion, Godliness as a devout Christian and loyal church member to Cornerstone church  and humor with everyone he met keeping a joke at hand along with a space in our hearts that cannot be filled.

An inurnment service will be held at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday May 26th, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
