John Altany

Franklin Edward Altany Jr. passed away peacefully at age 72, in the company of family and friends on May 7 in Rockport Texas. Raised in Charlotte, NC Frank attended Meyers Park High School and graduated from Duke University. He is survived by brothers Bob and John, longtime partner Patricia Glasscock, and best friend Chris Fox. Frank’s ready, warm smile and gentle upbeat manner earned him many friends throughout his extensive travels as a merchant seaman and ship captain. Eventually Frank settled down, dividing his time between his home in Aransas Pass, TX and his second home in Cullman County Alabama, which is to be maintained as a nature preserve. He will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered by many. The memorial will be private.
