Joann Jones

Joann (Wilson) Jones went to be with the Lord on August 19, 2021, in Rockport, Texas, at the age of 88. She was born March 1, 1933, in India, Texas, an unincorporated area of Ellis County, to parents James E. “Chuck” Wilson and Vera Jewel (Arnold) Wilson. She was the oldest of three, and was raised in the cotton patch near Palmer, Texas. Joann graduated from Palmer High School in 1950, the valedictorian of her class of six. Joann married Jerald Jones on February 10, 1951, in Palmer, Texas, and enjoyed 65 years of marriage. Joann was a committed mother to her two sons, Neale and Scott, she loved her daughter-in-law Kimberlie as her own, and treasured her grandchildren, Michael and Kathryn.

Joann worked as a secretary and office manager at various times in her life while she raised her children and managed the household. She was a skilled seamstress and artist. Joann was also known for her love for her extended family, as well as for her hospitality, compassion, and servant’s heart. Jerald and Joann invested their lives in the work of many local churches and were long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Cleburne, Texas. They moved to Rockport, Texas in 2015 to be near their grandchildren, and were active members of the First Baptist Church of Rockport. Joann’s love, grace, and laughter gained her devoted friends wherever she went.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald Jones; her parents James Eldon and Vera Jewell (Arnold) Wilson; by her brother James Ellis Wilson and his wife Mildred (Heard) Wilson; by brothers-in-law Walt Massey, Rodney Jones, Bill Jones, Casey Jones, Kenneth Jones; and Mardis Brasher.

Joann is survived by son Neale Jones; son Scott Jones and his wife Kimberlie; sister Wanda Massey; sister-in-law Virginia Brasher; sister-in-law Cindy Sorrels; brother-in-law Cal Jones and his wife Sandy; sister-in-law Glynna Jones; sister-in-law Sandra Jones; sister-in-law Jane Jones; grandchildren Michael Jones and Kathryn Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 4, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Palmer, 200 S. Sherman St., Palmer, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church of Rockport, 1515 N. Live Oak St., Rockport, TX 78382.
