James Spencer

James F. Spencer passed away December 5, 2022, after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on September 29, 1935, in Logan, West Virginia to Ermine and Maxine Spencer. He graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1953. Following graduation, Jim joined the United State Army and proudly served his country for 21 years. During his enlistment, he served 2 tours in Viet Nam. Jim retired from the Army in 1974 as a Chief Warrant Officer.

He married the love of his life, Mattie Sue Spencer, February 24, 1958. They had four loving children: Alan, James, Peggy and Mark. After retirement from the Army, Jim served as an Aransas Pass Police Officer and Detective, Aransas Pass City Judge, and San Patricio Precinct 6 Justice of the Peace.

Jim is preceded in death by his father and mother Ermine and Maxine Spencer, and his brother Richard Spencer. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Sue; his four children Alan (Sarah) Spencer, James (Jennifer) Spencer; Peggy Spencer Hamrick; Mark (Lisa) Spencer; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to honor Jim will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, Portland, TX at 10:30 am.
