James Domenic Beckner passed away peacefully on May 18th at home surrounded by his family after a year long battle with an aggressive cancer. Jimi was born on March 6, 1967 in Lehigh, Pennsylvania to James and Lucy Beckner. As a child he moved with his family to Port Aransas, Texas. After getting a taste of the Island Life, he decided to make Texas his home. He worked for MD Anderson in Houston for almost 20 years and the rest of his career running crews in the refineries. He spent his days off fishing with his brother Pete, riding motorcycles with his brother Norman and being a foodie with his sister Cindi. Jimi had been involved in AA and NA for decades and was always trying to help fellow addicts and alcoholics in recovery. He was known for his unusual humor, his free spirit and his willingness to help those in need. He kept that light all the way to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepson. He is survived by his brothers Pete (Dora) Arzola, Norman Spells and his sister Cynthia Arnold, his cousin Kelly Burkhardt, his nieces Ashley Spells-Hayes, Allyson Spells, Nicole Stevens and Crystal Rabalais and was a Great Uncle to Zoe Morgan, Asayla Wells and August Hayes. He also leaves behind the love of his life, his Harley Davidson, “The Ghostrider” and a huge community of loving friends. Everyone that knew him, loved him and he will be missed by all of us.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 12th at 3:00pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Texas. Following his wishes, we are asking that everyone come in “Jimi” style. Island wear and biker clothes are welcome and encouraged! Following the service, you are welcome to join us as we take him on one last ride to his final resting place in Port Aransas. The scattering of the ashes will be a private family event.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, love and well wishes during this time.
