Henry Edward Harris, Jr passed away peacefully at his home in Rockport, TX on October 19, 2022, after a short battle with congestive heart failure. He was a Christian, a veteran, an educator, and an avid sportsman. He was 88.

Henry is survived by his brother, Edward F. Harris, and his sister, Linnie (Linn) M. Cline. As well as his two remaining siblings, he leaves behind his loving wife, Eilene Mae Harris. He and his wife would have been married 65 years on October 29, 2022. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his four children, Henry E. Harris, III of Groesbeck Texas, Harvey W. Harris of Rockport, Texas, Henrietta E. Welch of Rankin, Texas, Hilda F. Harris of Rockport, Texas, along with his three grandchildren, Adam B. Welch, Alyssa M. Abalos, and Fenix V. Budd. Henry is also survived by his great grandchildren, Jacob, Jackson, and Jensen Welch, who were the apple of his eye.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry E. and Eunice L. Harris of Canon City, Colorado; his sister, Lee F. Mowery; brother, James (Jim) O. Harris; sister, Beulah Carlton-Baldwin; and sister, Liddie (Rose) R. Pierce.

Henry was born on April 18, 1934 in Fredericksburg, Texas to parents, Henry E. and Eunice L. Harris. He joined the Navy on December 08, 1952 and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Prior to discharge he was promoted to pipefitter, second class petty officer, and received a good conduct award and other high traditions of Naval service. He completed the remainder of his four years of service with the Pacific Reserve Fleet in San Diego, California. After discharge he went on to attend college at Colorado State University at Alamosa, Colorado, where he received a Master of Arts degree in Education. He was a member of the National Education Association, and taught at Wolford Elementary in Black Forest, Colorado. Due to a health condition, Henry received a disability retirement from teaching, and moved his family to Rockport, Texas.

Henry was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, and along with his wife, his children, or even his grandchildren, would often enjoy traveling across the United States, camping from coast to coast.

The memorial service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Coastal Oaks Church in Rockport, Texas. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM in Corpus Christi, at the Coastal Bend Veteran’s Cemetery.
